Bass Harbor Memorial Library will be presenting ‘Keepsake Embroidery : The Lifelong Diversion of Susannah Coolidge Jones’, July 2 – 31, 2024
“Embroidery is one of those mediums which enable one to make something nice out of very little, and therein lies the joy.”
Beloved local artist and Bernard resident Susan Coolidge Jones’s (1924 – 2020) embroidery will be on display at the library all during the month of July. The exhibit will feature clothing, fabrics, furniture, and other remarkably beautiful works of art that Susannah created using the Jacobean Crewel stitch, a method that she learned as a child from her step-grandmother, Gail Parsons, Mrs. J. Templeman Coolidge. In her own words, “My embroidery has made it possible for me to restore and create things that are personal and decorative, which, for one reason or another, I could not have bought. It has enhanced my enjoyment in giving gifts.”
An Opening Reception for the show will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 5:30 PM with musical accompaniment by Susannah Jones’ son Amos. All are invited to attend.
