Tired of Winter? The Bass Harbor Memorial Library will be presenting Art Paine and Carey Donovan’s Travels to the Bahamas, a Travelogue Slide Presentation that will warm you while you learn about The Family Island Regatta that takes place on the island of Exuma. A unique and colorful event that has been going on annually for 70 years!
Art fell in love with this event in 1954 when he was 9 years old, and read about it in Yachting Magazine! Although he was an avid sailor, it took him 38 years to go see the Regatta for himself. The Committee that runs the Regatta caught Art’s enthusiasm and asked him to come back every year to assist, which he continues to do to this day.
In addition to being a colorful show, the Regatta has an interesting history. How did this come to be? What impact did it have on the Bahamas? How has it lasted so long? Come hear Art and Carey tell their story on Thursday, March 6 at 5:30 PM at the Bass Harbor Memorial Library, 89 Bernard Road, Bernard, Maine.
